“Donald Trump doesn’t need a tax cut. I don’t need a tax cut,” Democrat Hillary Clinton told a campaign gathering in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday.
“It’s time for the wealthiest Americans, whoever you are, as well as corporations and Wall Street to pay your fair share in taxes. You have been successful in this country because of everything this country represents,” she said.
Clinton’s suggestion that people owe their success to someone other than themselves is not original.
President Obama said something similar four years ago, during his re-election campaign: “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” Obama told a group in Roanoke, Virginia in July 2012.
Obama said successful people got help along the way, maybe from a teacher, or from the “American system,” with its road, bridges and inventions such as the Internet.
